Alison Gear
Alison Gear was born in Vancouver and has lived on beautiful Haida Gwaii since 1996. For the past 10 years, she has worked in the field of family literacy and currently works as an Early Learning Coordinator for School District No. 50, Haida Gwaii. She has an MA in Language and Literacy Education from the University of British Columbia. Alison is passionate about literacy and learning and believes the power of words and stories can make a difference in every child’s life.
Taan’s Moons: A Haida Moon Story is Alison’s 2nd title with McKellar & Martin. Her first, B is for Basketball: An Alphabet Book was created with Tawni Davidson, Joanne Yovanovich, School District No.50, Haida Gwaii, Beng Favreau (Literacy Haida Gwaii), and was illustrated by Judy Hilgemann. B is for Basketball: An Alphabet Book has been a Welcome to Kindergarten selection for two consecutive seasons, and was a 2014-2015 nominee for the First Nation Communities Read award.
